Student Activism
Building a Personal Commitment to Sustainability
At Billings, students reach beyond their walls to engage complex humanitarian, environmental or political challenges. It is a way of making a real and lasting impact on the world, while internalizing learning for a lifetime. It is a commitment to living actively, thinking critically and engaging the broader world with humility, competence and relevant life experience.

Students Protest Iraq Veterans' Medical Care
Students studying veterans and veterans' issues discovered that soldiers returning from Iraq who were in need of medical attention were being housed in deplorable conditions. They staged a public demonstration in front of Fremont's UPS store, packing and sending a large supply of toilet paper (one of the basic needs not being met) as a symbol of support. They wrote and distributed press releases and several radio stations were there to document the protest. In addition, U.S. Senator Patty Murray, chair of the Veterans committee, presented them with a letter of commendation.
