Billings exposes me to things I would never have tried on my own. It helps me create the life I want to live.
~ Hannah, Class of 2005

Dear Applicant Families,

Thank you for your interest in Billings Middle School!

Billings provides students with an extraordinary middle school experienceBillings provides families with an extraordinary middle school experience for sixth through eighth grade students in a small school setting. Since our founding in 1996, we have established a unique urban campus in the Greenlake neighborhood in partnership with the park and nearby businesses, and we have been recognized nationally for our innovative curriculum. Billings is also known for our focus on the performing arts, the quality of our student-driven scientific research, and our emphasis on social justice, community service, and global affairs.

As we have grown, the breadth of our programs and the diversity of our student body has also grown. Last year alone, we received applications representing students from nearly 40 different elementary schools throughout greater Seattle. We also attract applicants relocating from elsewhere in the country as well as international students moving to the United States. Graduates of Billings attend a wide range of public high schools and independent upper schools. Current Billings alumni are attending a variety of colleges and universities including Dartmouth, Middlebury, Oberlin, Smith, Stanford, and several Washington State schools including the UW.

Our admissions process is not “by the numbers.” We spend a great deal of time getting to know each applicant and their family. As part of the admissions process, each student is asked to attend a full “Visit Day” and our Head of School meets every applicant family. We believe that everyone who comes into contact with Billings will learn something new about middle school education.

Great candidates for Billings are students who are lively and curious learners, demonstrate a capacity for responsibility and believe in a respect for self and the community that surrounds them. Just as important, we look for families who are thoughtfully involved in their child’s education, who are open to the possibilities and challenges of early adolescence, and who will make a positive contribution to the school community.

We're looking forward to meeting you this fall. Please don't hesitate to contact me to request an application or with any questions as you progress through our admissions process!
