Diving into "Community"

Design Week community kickoffToday marked the kickoff of annual design week theme study. This year's theme gives a focal point for striving to uncover a personal and/or meaningful interpretations, and for what happens when we layer these efforts one upon another so that the meaning of "Community" becomes bigger and more illuminated than when we investigate on our own - bigger even than the sum of of our efforts, because we have shared the work together and the space that we created the work within.

Design Week community - Tribes

Design week is also a chance for us to more broadly explore the idea of Community both within and outside of our school. We'll engage artists and advocates from outside our walls. Hank Voss will inspire us to share a common rhythm through percussion and storytelling. World Relief will inform us (through words and simulation) about the experience of trying to engage the American community as a refugee. The Tribes project will challenge us to consider our own composition with regard to race, identity and language. When we are done, we'll come back together and consider what we learned together, share new perspectives and consider whether we have any new goals as a community of learners.
